A wonderful day was had at the official opening of “Cooinda Place” the name given to our completed ARC20 housing initiative in Alexander Gardens, Rockhampton. Cooinda Place, named by The Sisters of Mercy, Brisbane, was officially opened on 14th November 2024. Ten dilapidated cottages were renovated as part of The Shelter Collectives mission to create real and tangible solutions to homelessness through collective action. These ten cottages now house local women over 55 years of age who had been struggling with homelessness and now can call Cooinda Place their home.
This collective effort – over 88 individuals and businesses – raising funds, contributing time and effort and in-kind support, renovated these cottages and created a lovely community setting that our new tenants are proud to call home.
A big thanks to the Rockhampton community for the generosity of spirit and willingness to step up and “be the change’ that our community needs
.
